Share this:

Now that you’ve published a well-written and well-researched blog post, what do you do next? Do you let it sit there and simply wait for traffic to come in? Absolutely not.

Your job as a blogger doesn’t end when your content goes live on your blog. You need to follow through. Writing the article is only half the work; half is making sure your audience knows it’s there. Check out these post-publication tips on how to generate the best results from your blog posts.

#1. Tweet your post

Let your followers know of your new post. You can use sites like Tweetdeck and to shorten the URL to your post and keep track of the clicks to your article. Be sure to carefully choose what you say in your tweet because it will serve as your “ad copy”, which will help drive in more traffic to your article. You can do this automatically in wordpress by tweaking the Publicize feature. Here are some other ways to automatically tweet every time you post a new article on your site.

#2. Email broadcast

Email your new post to people who have signed up for email updates. Just write a short introduction and include the URL of the post. You can also automate this process by using blog broadcast functions such as MailChimp and AWeber so every time you update your blog, the people in your list will automatically get an email informing them of your new post.

#3. Share it on Facebook

Facebook, when used effectively, can bring a lot of traffic to your blog. With more and more people signing up on Facebook each day, you need to take full advantage of this social media platform to put your posts in front of people. As with twitter, there are also tools that can automatically notify your Facebook friends or fans whenever you post something new to your blog.

#4. Submit your article to Social News and Social Bookmarking Sites

Submitting your article’s URL to social news sites (like and and social bookmarking sites (like digg, reddit and stumbleupon) is one of the fastest ways to get your content in front of your readers. Here is a list of social bookmarking and news sites to get you started.

#5. Link back to old posts

Adding links to old posts on your new articles will help keep fresh traffic to your old articles. So dig in into your old articles, find relevant contents, and link them to your new articles. This will serve as a link and trackback that will give your blog more traffic.

#6. Reply to comments

Make sure to respond to your visitor’s comments because they took the time to leave a comment on your post, so the least you can do is answer them back. If you have time, click on their website or blog and take time to leave a comment as well. This simple gesture will help you gain their trust and loyalty.

Producing content requires a lot of work and spreading the word takes just as much effort. Always remember the old saying “you reap what you sow” so in order to reap the rewards, you need to invest time and effort that would be deserving of such attention from your readers. Good luck!
