Having the appropriate bleed is the best way to minimize cutting issues. Any ink coverage that extends to the edge of the paper should extend to the bleed line on your proof and template. To create bleed, make your document .25″ or 1/8″ larger on all four sides. For example, artwork for a 4″ x 6″ postcard should extend to 4.25″ x 6.25″.
 |
On your proof and template, the bleed line is outside the blue cut line. If your art extends to the blue cut line but not the bleed line, you may have unwanted white borders after trimming. Remember that it is also important to keep all text and anything you do not want cut within the “safety” area; at least .125″ inside the cut line. The “safety zone” is indicated by the green line on your proof and template. |
